Vocational school students have opportunities to get jobs

YBO -Vocational schools in the northern province of Yen Bai have paid attention to improving facilities and linkage with businesses to train human resources that better meet employment requirements.

Nguyen Tuan Anh graduated from Yen Bai Vocational College’s Automotive Technology Faculty and soon got a job. With knowledge and skills accumulated at school and workshops, he soon became a good car dealer and always achieved his yearly sales targets.

Yen Bai province currently has 14 job training establishments including three colleges, three vocational schools, six district-level vocational education and continuing education centres, two private vocational training centres and four private vocational education establishments.

In the 2023 school year, more than 20,000 students in the province were enrolled in job training courses. Up to 80-90% of students graduating from job-training institutions in the province got jobs.

Meanwhile, there are 3,173 enterprises in the province now including 2,054 Ltd companies, 696 joint stock companies, 360 private enterprises, and 50 FDI enterprises.

From the beginning of the year, the province has issued new registration certificates to 248 businesses, with a total registered capital of more than 2.45 trillion VND (99.7 million USD). Thus, Yen Bai has seen an increasing labour demand, especially for trained skilled workers.

According to a report from the provincial Statistics Department, in September 2023, the province’s labour utilization index increased by 1.4% over the previous month, up 20.82% over the same period last year. The index in the manufacturing and processing industry increased the most to 29.02%.

Le Anh Tuan, principal of Yen Bai Vocational College said that businesses are engaged in all stages in the training process, from developing curriculum and training teachers to equipping students with proper awareness, industrial behaviour, and labour discipline.

Before graduating, students also receive training in communication skills, presentation skills, and teamwork.

Tuan said that about 90% of the college’s students find jobs immediately after graduation.
