>> Yen Bai Uprising – An immortal epic

On the day 90 years ago, an armed uprising was launched in Yen Bai by the Nationalist Party of Vietnam to topple the French colonial rule and build a truly independent republic of Vietnam.

It was the first among various insurrections against the French colonial rule in many northern localities in the early 20th century.

It was led by Nguyen Thai Hoc, a staunch and indomitable patriot, who was the leader of the Viet Nam Quoc dan Dang (National Party of Vietnam).

With the motto "If becoming successful is not possible then becoming a decent person shall be good enough”, it had a strong influence on the national liberation across the country and Indochina. 

However, because of various reasons, the uprising failed. The heroic sacrifice by the 17 heroes became a symbol of revolutionary heroism, contributing to the glorious history against invaders of the nation and Yen Bai people.

The 90th anniversary of the uprising reminds Party members and Yen Bai locals of historical values and patriotism of Nguyen Thai Hoc and other soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1930 insurrection.

It helps promote the pride of revolutionary heroism of Yen Bai and encourage Party cells, authorities and people of every ethnic group in the province to weather difficulties and challenges together, turning Yen Bai into a province with fair development in Vietnam’s northern mountainous region.
