Luc Yen district enriches traditional culture

(YBO) – Luc Yen district has determined that preservation and promotion of the local cultural identity and historical and cultural relic sites are an important goal in socio-economic development.

The district, home to 18 ethnic groups, is a land with long history and rich and diverse ethnic cultures. Currently, the locality has 173 intangible cultural heritages, 147 tangible cultural heritages, of which 18 relics have been ranked, including two national historical sites and 16 provincial historical, cultural and revolutionary relics.

Protecting and promoting the value of tangible cultural heritage items, over the past two decades, the district has supported the restoration of many relic sites, including Dai Ca, Suoi Tien temples, Hang Sao pagoda bridge, Na Ngam communal house, among others.

Besides, the district has also revived tangible cultural heritages such as Roong Ma festival of Tay ethnic group in Muong Lai commune, "cap Sac” ritual (an indispensable part of the life of every Dao ethnic male, as it recognises him as being mature enough to join in the community’s major activities), among others.

The district has also coordinated with artisans to open classes to teach folk music to young generation such as folk songs of Dao, Tay, Nung ethnic people.

To date, Luc Yen has nine intangible cultural heritages that are preserved under the national target programme, including singing ceremony to welcome the bride of Tay ethnic people, the custom of making friends in An Phu commune, the naming of children ceremony, weaving, dyeing, and embroidering patterns on cloth of the Red Dao, among others.

The district has four excellent artisans and 13 traditional art troupes. The locality also grants operating equipment for cultural and sports activities in villages with developed cultural and artistic movements.
