Mu Cang Chai makes flexible moves to preserve landscapes

YênBái - Yen Bai – Households in Mam Xoi hill in La Pan Tan commune and Horseshoe area in Mo De commune, which are well-known for their stunning landscape of terraced rice fields, have started to lease their farming land since last year.

The move aims to help them to get a stable income while renters can invest properly to offer a typical tourism product to visitors at the right time.

Ho Vang Giong in Ta Chi Lu village of La Pan Tan commune said that his family grows paddy in Mam Xoi hill but in the last few years, due to water shortage, local households failed to prepare the soil at the same time, therefore, their paddy was unable to ripen concurrently.

Besides Mam Xoi hill, Horseshoes area in Mo De commune is also a popular tourist attraction during the paddy harvest time and rainy season. However, in recent years, due to water shortage, local farmers cannot grow and harvest rice together so the landscape is not as beautiful as expected.

Giang A Chinh, head of Mu Cang Chai Horseshoe Hill Cooperative Group, said that in 2022, the group plans to rent the entire Horseshoe hill area of 12 households and then invest to make it a popular check-in site for visitors to Mu Cang Chai.

They want to offer visitors a landscape of massive rice ripening, Chinh said.

Other tourist attraction sites such as Pung Luong bamboo forest, pine hill, De Xu Phinh dinosaur spine – a beautiful dangerous path to milestone No. 1305, and Lao Chai ancient rock field are now managed by units who are responsible for preserve the sites and keeping them clean to attract tourists.

In addition, Hello Mu Cang Chai Tourism and Trading Co., Ltd. has been joining hands in repairing roads and building rest camps to serve climbers who want to conquer the peaks of Lung Cung in Nam Co commune or Ta Cay Dang peak in La Pan Tan commune.

Flexible measures to improve the quality of tourist attractions made changes to Mu Cang Chai tourism in terms of scale, operations, and sales. In 2022, the district welcomed over 350,000 tourists, reaching 166.7% of the plan, up 3.3 times over the same period.
