YênBái - With the message of “Giving a drop of blood, save a life”, a lot of voluntary blood donation campaigns have taken place in the northern province of Yen Bai, including the “Red Spring Festival”, “Red Sunday”, the Voluntary Blood Donation Day (April 7) and Vietnamese Doctor’s Day (February 27).

Certificates of merit were presented to outstanding blood donors for their contributions to the blood donation movement at the ceremony held in 2019.

In the first six months of this year, the provincial steering committee for voluntary blood donation has collected over 3,000 units of blood, helping to overcome the shortage of blood in local hospitals.

Police officers and soldiers in the province have volunteered to donate more than 1,200 units of blood since 2020 through the blood donation movement in the entire force.

Captain Pham Minh Tuan, head of the provincial police’s blood donation club said: "Currently, the club has 50 members with key members from the youth union who are willing to participate in blood donation when there is a request".

With the motto "giving blood to save people’ lives is a noble gesture", the voluntary blood donation movement has spread in society, among people of different ages. It reflects a noble gesture, expanding profound human values in the spirit of "mutual affection” for the community.

Nguyen Van Huynh, an active volunteer of the Red Cross Society of An Thinh commune, Van Yen district, has registered to donate blood since 2013. He has donated more than 15 times.

Nguyen Van Huynh is honored among outstanding blood donors nationwide in 2020.

With his contribution, Huynh was honored as an outstanding example in the province’s blood donation movement in 2017 and 2019. Last year, he is among 100 outstanding blood donors from 63 cities and provinces nationwide. 

Dinh Ngoc Anh, an employee at the Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union, is also a typical example in the blood donation movement. She has donated blood 14 times over the past five years. Anh joined the movement since she was a first-year student.

"I was very nervous when I donated blood for the first time. But after knowing that many people have been saved thanks to those drops of blood, I have more motivation to continue donating blood for the community,” she said.

In addition to donating blood, Anh has also actively shared information about the blood donation programme and called for friends to join the blood donation.

Hoang Quynh Luu, 33, residing in residential group No. 2, Minh Tan ward, Yen Bai city, who has made donations 15 times, said she was very happy to recognise that her work is appreciated by everyone.

"Medicine can be bought, but blood cannot be produced anywhere. My happiness is to see sick people being saved from my blood. In our life, sharing the love and helping each other is necessary,” Luu said.

The World Blood Donor Day (June 14) is an occasion for the whole community to recognise and honor the noble deeds of blood donors. The outstanding examples in Yen Bai province's blood donation movement are being expanded with the message of giving faith and hope for a better life.
