In 2022, Yen Bai's agricultural sector established 37 tea planting area codes for export to countries and territories such as the US, India, Russia, Taiwan (China), Uzbekistan and various European nations with an area of 294 ha, along with 13 codes serving domestic sale with an area of 35 ha. In 2023, the sector is expected to issue codes to 35 growing areas of pomelo, dragon fruit, rice, vegetables and some medicinal plants with an area of over 450 ha.

To encourage the registration of the code issuance in the province, at its 10th session, the provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 51/2022/NQ-HDND dated December 9, 2022 stipulating the content and amount of subsidy from the National Target Programme on New-style Rural Area Building in the 2021-2025 period in Yen Bai province.

The Resolution stipulates the cost of consulting, monitoring and providing planting area codes supported to individuals and organisations. Specifically, the planting area to serve export will receive a funding of up to 40 million VND (1,700 USD); 20 million VND for the growing area for domestic sale, and up to 10 million VND per product for traceability of key products.

With the goal of focusing on issuing, granting, managing and monitoring codes for the main production areas, those growing the crops identified as key products and specialties of the province, in the coming time, the agricultural sector will step up the dissemination of information about benefits, and procedures of establishing, granting, managing and monitoring planting area codes for individuals, organisations, local authorities and professional staff; and organise training for managers, local authorities, and relevant organisations and individuals.

It will make annual plans for establishing, granting, managing and monitoring the codes on the basis of needs of localities; regularly evaluate and summarise to come up with the most effective implementation solutions; focus on granting codes for planting areas in communes which are striving to complete advanced and model new-style rural area building criteria; and implements support policies to encourage and create conditions for organisations and individuals in registering for planting area codes./.
