Yen Bai province, Val-de-Marne department of France review cooperation

Following the 12th conference of Vietnam - France decentralised cooperation in Hanoi, the steering committee for cooperation between Yen Bai province and Val-de-Marne department of France has held a meeting to review bilateral cooperation since 2014 and launch joint activities for the coming time.

Since Yen Bai and Val-de-Marne formed friendship and cooperative ties in 1996, bilateral relations have been increasingly reinforced and reaped fruitful results. Val-de-Marne has effectively assisted Yen Bai in such fields as health care, culture, heritage value promotion, water supply and wastewater treatment, agriculture and rural development, and economic development.

Via cooperation projects and bilateral meetings, people of the two sides have gained better understanding of each other’s cultures, thus helping to intensify the Vietnam - France strategic partnership.


The delegation of the Val-de-Marne department council and Vice Chairman of the Yen Bai provincial People’s Committee Ngo Hanh Phuc visit activities held at the Nguyen Du Secondary School in response to the second Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day.

Yen Bai and Val-de-Marne signed two framework agreements for 2014 - 2019 and 2020 - 2026 under which they have carried out 14 projects at the total cost of 32.2 billion VND (1.37 million USD) in the fields of health care, culture, economic development, agriculture and rural development, environmental planning, and infrastructure. Of the total funding, the Val-de-Marne department council contributed 10.82 billion VND and Yen Bai 6.95 billion VND.

The French side has also raised more than 13 billion VND in sponsorship from partners for cooperation projects in planning, environment, clean water supply, and wastewater treatment.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed cooperation results, pointed out difficulties, and propose joint activities for the coming time in three priority areas: clean water supply, wastewater collection, access to water resources; ecological transformation, climate change fight, biodiversity conservation; health care and maternal and child health protection.


The delegation of the Val-de-Marne department council visit some households engaging in community-based tourism and a class teaching the ancient Thai ethnic script in Nghia Lo town.

During their working trip to Yen Bai province, the delegation of the Val-de-Marne department council made a courtesy call on Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Do Duc Duy. They attended some activities in response to the second Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Yen Bai city, and visited a waiting room for mothers and children at the Yen Bai Hospital of Obstetrics and Paediatrics. They also experienced the culture of the Thai ethnic group in the Nghia Lo - Muong Lo area and visited the provincial Museum.
