Lao students gather on Boun Pimay festival in Yen Bai

YênBái - The People's Committee of northern Yen Bai province on April 12 held a meeting and presented gifts to Lao students who are studying at local vocational schools, on the occasion of Laos' traditional New Year festival Boun Pimay.

During the 2022-2023 academic year, Yen Bai records 89 Lao students who are studying the Vietnamese language and majors at Yen Bai College and Vocational College. During their study, local teachers and students helped them settle down and study well.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Ngo Hanh Phuc hailed academic achievements made by Lao students, as well as dedicated support of local teachers who created a good environment for them to study.

Phuc suggested Yen Bai College and Vocational College pay more attention to holding extracurricular activities, clubs, and cultural and sports movements as well as teaching the Vietnamese language and specific knowledge.

The colleges should continue strengthening comprehensive education, with attention to ethics, lifestyle, living skills and health care for the students. They should also follow policies for Lao students and arrange accommodation and meals to ensure the best conditions for them, he said.

On behalf of the local leaders, Phuc wished that they would strive for high academic results. The strong cooperation between Yen Bai and the provinces of Xaynhabuly and Vientiane will go further, contributing to the ever-lasting and strong friendship between Vietnam and Laos, he said.
