Yen Bai records 26 new HIV infection cases

YênBái - Through HIV/AIDS testing, Yen Bai has detected 26 new HIV carriers so far this year, up 13 cases compared to the same period in 2020, including 22 men and four women, lifting the total number of HIV/AIDS patients in the province to 6,075.

Since the beginning of 2021, the local health sector has organised 122 communication sessions, providing knowledge on HIV/AIDS prevention and control to 2,592 people in all districts, towns and Yen Bai city.
 
Activities to prevent and minimise HIV infection have been implemented in the province, including programmes to provide syringes and condoms in 30 communes and wards. 

Accordingly, as many as 81,690 syringes were distributed to intravenous drug users, and 12,970 condoms were provided to people at high risk of contracting HIV. Meanwhile, 1, 913 living with HIV/AIDS had received antiretroviral (ARV) treatment service. 

According to the local authorities, the rate of HIV transmission through blood, sexual activities, mother-to-child accounts for 41.33 percent, 13.72 percent and 0.49 percent, respectively. Other causes make up 44.46 percent. 

To further promote the work in the time to come, the local health sector will strengthen its supervision of HIV/AIDS prevention at health facilities, step up the operation of HIV/AIDS prevention clubs, expand relevant consultation activities, call for voluntary HIV testing, as well as install more medical equipment.
