17 local products gain protection of intellectual property

Yen Bai province has provided consultations to local firms in completing procedures to register protection of intellectual property for 17 products during 2018-2020.

Of the total, three products gained geographical indication (GI) certification, namely Van Yen cinnamon, Muong Lo rice and Bat Do bamboo. Six products with brand certificates were Suoi Giang tea, Mu Cang Chai Son Tra (scientific name Crataegus), Dai Minh-Yen Binh pomelo, Thac Ba lake fish, Mu Cang Chai black bone chicken and Lam Thuong duck. 

Meanwhile, collective brand certificates were granted to eight products - Luc Yen orange, Van Chan orange, Bach Ha-Yen Binh rice, Tu Le-Van Chan glutinous rice, Gioi Phien arrowroot vermicelli, Huong Chiem-Dai Phu An rice, Muong Lo smoked meat and Luc Yen seedless persimmon.

Additionally, business owners received consultations in how to improve their products’ packaging, labels, brand and product storytelling, as well as register for bar codes, QR code, and food safety certification, making them eligible to engage in the rating of the One Commune, One Product programme.

They also got assistance in completing procedures to register for VIETGAP, GLOBAL, ISO and HACCP certificates, analysing their products regarding value, competitive edge, limitation, and branding towards forming a value chain./.
