Yen Bai Women’s Union raises awareness against child and consanguineous marriage

YênBái - Yen Bai’s Women’s Union has organised an event to raise awareness of negative impacts of child and consanguineous marriage, and illegal immigration among Mu Cang Chai district’s residents.

Several small theatrical plays on these matters have been performed in Mong ethnic minority language while a quiz has also been held, engaging active and large participation. The activities have provided people with useful information and knowledge on the issues.

Additionally, the union has organised training courses on traffic safety and preventing illegal immigration and cybercrimes for members of community-based self-governed women’s groups in Mu Cang Chai.

It has also cooperated with Samaritan’s Purse (SP) to present breeding cows to needy people in the villages of Hong Lau and Khe Ron in Hong Ca commune, Tran Yen district. The activity forms part of a project on improving livelihood and nutrition in Hong Ca. Under the project, 40 breeding cows will be delivered to impoverished households in the two villages who will also receive financial support to build barns and purchase grass of VA06 variety for the cattle. In addition, the beneficiaries will be given training on how to make barns, grow VA06 grass and effectively raise cows.

Since 2017, the SP has been conducting projects on enhancing livelihood for people in the districts of Tram Tau, Van Yen, Luc Yen, Van Chan, and Yen Binh and those on natural disaster response and risk reduction in the districts of Van Yen and Van Chan, and the town of Nghia Lo.
