In 2022, Ha Van At’s family was aided to build a 100m2 house worth over 100 million VND (4,274 USD) in Nghia Lo Town’s Son A commune. Half of the cost was sourced from the ‘For the Poor’ fund.

"I am truly happy because now I can live with peace of mind for the rest of my life without having to worry about a home,” At said.

Luong Thi Yeu from Nghia Lo’s Phu Nham commune also received 50 million VND from the fund to build an 80m2 house, which is expected to complete in late August.

Since the beginning of this year, the fund and the provincial social welfare programme have received nearly 7 billion VND worth of donations, of which 3.9 billion VND has been earmarked for the construction of 82 charity houses for the poor. To date, part of the funding has been distributed among 22 households.

Earlier, from 2016 to May, 2021, the local front committees at all levels raised over 90 billion VND for the fund and social welfare programmes. As a result, 4,800 charity houses valued more than 46 billion VND were built, while aid worth over 20 billion VND were delivered to the needy on special occasions as well as to help them take medical checkup and treatment, and to assist poor students in purchasing learning tools.

The committees also collaborated with socio-political organisations in guiding poor households in business development and poverty reduction. Models for mutual support in sustainable poverty alleviation and other activities helped over 12,500 families escape poverty, cutting the provincial rate of poverty households for 2016-2020 by some 4.93%.
