YênBái - Chu Van An High School in Van Yen district of northern Yen Bai province, formerly known as Van Yen High School, was established in August 1970. There were only six teachers and 99 students at the time, and they had to work in thatch and bamboo classrooms.

Currently, the school houses 76 staff members and nearly 1,300 students in 30 classes.

After withstanding difficult years during the resistance war against the US, teachers and students of the school have over the years upheld solidarity and improved quality of education and training, which is viewed as a key and long-term strategic task.

In addition to teaching and learning, campaigns on building a friendly school with active students and teachers being role models in ethics, self-learning and innovation, have been effectively carried out to bolster education-training quality and nurture talents.

The rate of good and excellent students ranges between 55 percent and 68 percent per year, while that of students entering universities makes up over 50 percent. 

Due attention has been paid to general training, as the school is ranked second or third in Yen Bai in the number of students winning contests at provincial and national levels.

Over the past 50 years, Chu Van An High School has had 350 classes with about 150,000 graduates, 750 of them excellent students at the provincial level. The school had bagged 26 prizes at national competitions.

In the 20120-21 academic year, it had 39 excellent students at the provincial level and two made into the national teams competing at international contests.

The school clinched two second, one third prize and one consolation prize at a start-up idea contest for students of Yen Bai.

In 1997, the school received a Labour Order, third class, and a Labour Order, second class 18 years later. 

On the occasion of its 50th founding anniversary, the school was honoured with a first-class Labour Order conferred by the State President.
