Accordingly, Yen Bai will tighten the management of natural resources, and work to ensure the economical and effective exploitation and use of the resources. It will also combine economic development with environmental protection harmoniously.

More attention will be paid to implementing land and mineral planning schemes, preventing and easing environmental pollution and degradation, and the exhaustion of water resources, and improving the assessment of environmental impacts of the projects.

Yen Bai will also step up inspections and strictly handle violations, especially polluting industrial production, handicraft facilities and farms. It will not license or revoke investment plans and licences of industrial production projects that have caused or may cause pollution, affecting production and daily lives of local residents.

Mining activities that violate legal regulations, especially those on land, minerals and environmental protection, will also be halted. Yen Bai expects to handle more than half of the polluting establishments this year and resolutely prevent others from causing environmental pollution.  

The province will consolidate its clean water treatment, as well as waste water and waste collection and treatment systems to ensure a safe living environment for its residents. By 2022, about 88 percent of the population are expected to access clean water, and 93 percent of rural residents will be provided with hygienic water. Meanwhile, 88 percent of urban solid waste and 33.7 percent of rural solid waste will be collected and treated.

At the same time, Yen Bai will focus on improving the ecological environment, the rural landscape and locals’ living standards. Apart from raising the efficiency of State management on forest protection and development, Yen Bai will step up afforestation, striving to grow 15,00 ha of forests and maintain the forest coverage of 63 percent.

It will further respond to the project on growing 1 billion trees for 2021-2025, and encourage officials, Party members, armed forces and people from all walks of life to grow trees at their workplaces and at home.

More scientific solutions are expected to be rolled out to cope with consequences of natural disasters, especially floods and landslides, thus minimising human and property losses. Local authorities will encourage households in the areas prone to natural disasters to move to safer places.
