Nong Xuan Hung, head of the department, said that tax payers can choose to make tax declaration directly at the tax office or online through the national online portal for public services/online portal of the General Department of Taxation. However, currently the payment through the national online portal for public services/online portal of the General Department of Taxation has been applied on payers only in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and will be expanded to other localities in the future. He said that the department will keep locals updated.

Hung said there are three steps for processing online payment of registration fees. Firstly, payers must make tax declarations at the tax office. After that, they will receive a notification with their request code and a text message from the General Department of Taxation to their phone. The code will be used throughout the payment process at the national online portal for public services, commercial banks and intermediary payment organisations.

In the second step, the payers can pay the registration fee via national online portal for public services, commercial banks or intermediary payment organisations. In the last step, they will receive a confirm SMS from the General Department of Taxation, enabling them to continue processing the registration procedures at the traffic police office.

At the traffic police office, they will provide the request code to the police for registration and receive their vehicle’s number plate.

Hung said that in order to pay registration fee through the national online portal for public services, payers must register an account on the portal which is linked with their bank account.

Besides, the payers can use the account to pay for other payers through the national online portal for public services with similar steps. In the step of paying the fee, the payers can choose the column of "paying private tax/registration fee for other payer” and then follow instructions./.
