Over the past years, thanks to the support of all-level Party Committees and authorities, women’s associations and the entire political systems, such backward customs and habits have been gradually eliminated.

The communal women’s association has provided consultations for competent agencies and schools to open 15 literacy classes with the participation of 500 women who now basically know how to read and write the Vietnamese language. The numbers of women joining activities of the association and technical and scientific training courses have also increased.

Through the clubs, local women have been equipped with knowledge about reproductive health and how to build a happy family.

The association has also helped its members access loans of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies for economic development and poverty reduction. Five women in the commune have offered homestay services, and many of local women opened brocade shops and offered costume rental services and practiced brocade weaving.

At the same time, the association stepped up the communication work to raise public awareness of gender equality and eliminate backward customs, while paying more attention to raising capacity of female officials, those belonging to ethnic minority groups.

It has also formed consultation models and worked to increase job opportunities and ensure minimum income for female labourers, and protect women and children from violence.
