Terraced rice fields in Mu Cang Chai certified as special national relic site

YênBái - Mu Cang Chai district in Yen Bai province is scheduled to receive a certificate recognising its terraced rice fields as a special national relic site, and another recognising the New Rice Festival of local Mong people as national intangible cultural heritage on December 31.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued Decision No. 824/QD-BVHTTDL on the announcement of the list of national intangible cultural heritage, including the New Rice Festival of the Mong ethnic group in Mu Cang Chai.

The recognition of the terraced rice fields and the New Rice Festival is significant to production as well as the cultural and spiritual life of local residents.

The terraced rice fields cover 330 hectares in La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh communes. It won the status of the national relic site in 2007.
