Yen Bai students win second prize at ‘Vietnam’s quintessence’ short video contest

YênBái - A video on the conservation of folk music of Thai ethnic people by a group of high school students in Nghia Lo township of Yen Bai has clinched a second prize at the ‘Vietnam’s quintessence’ contest.

The group comprises of Nguyen Trong Nghia, Ha To Uyen, Nguyen Phuong Hien, Le Bat Hung and Ha Thanh Hue.

The short video contest targeting students was launched on August 2 and entries were submitted between August 16 and October 10. After eight weeks, the organising board received a total of 2,347 works from 54 provinces and youth organisations.

The prize-winning work of the Yen Bai students highlights folk music of Thai group whose lyrics touch on love between people and for the nature and homeland, as well as spiritual lives.

The conservation and upholding of the Thai ethnic group’s folk music show the sentiments and sense of responsibility of Thai residents in the north western region, along with the beauty, charm and talents of local people.

The competition was initiated by the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union Central Committee's Secretariat, with an aim to call on students to conserve traditional cultural values, and help uphold the country’s cultural identity.

It opened up chances for participants to explore and study traditional cultural traits of Vietnamese ethnic groups in terms of costumes, music, cuisine, architecture, customs and festivals, and more.
