An Phu is an extremely disadvantaged commune of Luc Yen district, with the rate of poor and near-poor families amounting to 42.2 percent.

Upholding the spirit of "the haves helping the have-nots”, the newspaper and the journalist, who owns a channel on Vietnamese culture on Youtube video-sharing platform, handed over 40 million VND (1,700 USD) to help the family of Loc Van Dung in Na Lai village in An Phu commune build a new house.

Local disadvantaged families also received one tonne of rice in total as they have been facing a range of difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donations were contributed by overseas Vietnam through a fundraising campaign launched by the newspaper and the journalist.

Since the start of 2020, Yen Bai Newspaper has presented six tonnes of cement to the commune to build a road, and nearly 10 million VND to help a family in Khau Xen village build a new house.

Luc Yens authorities said the district will build 163 houses for families of people who rendered services to the nation and impoverished households in 2020.
