The hill foot path to the village passes through pine forests, terraced fields, and corn and vegetable fields.

The hamlet is imbued with cultural identities of the Mong ethnic group. Most of houses in the hamlet were built on slopes and by earth, with the middle room designed for ancestor worship and guest reception.

The Mu Cang Chai Ecolodge eco-tourism site in Hua Khat boasts a pristine beauty. Its five houses have styles of both Mong and Thai ethnic groups and are named after local specialties like rice, son tra (scientific name: Malus formosana), corn, tea and pine.

Apart from fresh air, visitors to Hua Khat will have chances to participate in traditional festivals and join locals in farming activities and handicraft making.

They will also enjoy special dishes made from pork, chicken, forest vegetables and bamboo shoots, and banh day (steamed glutinous cakes), among others.

It would be great to drink local wine made from rice germ while listening to sounds of the Khen panpipe of Mong people in the cool autumn weather.
