Ethnic minority groups in Yen Bai preserve traditional costumes

YBO - In 2019, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism approved a project on preserving and promoting traditional costumes of Vietnamese ethnic minority groups in the present period.

The project will run until 2030 with two phases. Under the project, by 2022, most of students at boarding schools in cities and provinces will wear their traditional costumes two days per week, and during festivals. 

Home to 30 ethnic minority groups, Yen Bai has always paid attention to preserving their traditional costumes.

(YBO) – The Shanrila Muong Lo horse racing has been held in Nghia Lo township in northern Yen Bai province with the participation of 32 jockeys from the five provinces of Dien Bien, TuyenQuang, Son La, Lao Cai and Yen Bai.

Forest offering ceremonies, also known as forest festivals, were simultaneously held across sacred forests in Na Hau commune, Van Yen district on March 9 morning or the 29th day of the first month in the lunar calendar.

Many families wear Dao ethnic group’s traditional costume during traditional ceremonies and festivals.

YBO – Aside from majestic natural landscapes, Yen Bai province has established itself as a charming destination for tourists also thanks to long-standing and special cultural identities of local ethnic groups. Among those here, Dao people form a special community with a unique culture still sustained in their daily life nowadays. Costume is one of the cultural characteristics that embody the distinctive style, worldwide, and outlook on life of Dao people.

The authority of Yen Bai city has organised a spring dancing programme 2024 with the participation of over 2,000 amateurs artits. During the art programme to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet), Yen Bai’s famous singers performed songs praising the love for the nation and celebrating the New Year festival.
