Yen Bai launches project to enhance socio-economic welfare for ethnic minority women

The SPRINT project aims to improve the socio-economic welfare of ethnic minority women in Yen Bai Province. Running from 2024 to 2029, the project is funded by a non-refundable ODA budget of 9.75 million Canadian dollars.

Recently, the Yen Bai Cooperative Alliance, in collaboration with Cowater International, organized a planning conference for the implementation of the "Strengthening Resilience, Inclusion, and Innovative Transformation of SMEs" (SPRINT) project.

The SPRINT project was approved by the People’s Committee of Yen Bai Province under Decision No. 2323/QĐ-UBND on November 20, 2024. It will be implemented in five districts—Van Yen, Van Chan, Luc Yen, Tram Tau, and Mu Cang Chai—and Yen Bai City.

The SPRINT project targets ethnic minority women and producers, primarily women, as its beneficiaries. It also supports small and micro-enterprises, cooperatives, and producers involved in agricultural value chains led by or heavily involving ethnic minority women.

With a total non-refundable ODA budget of 9.75 million Canadian dollars, the project will be implemented from 2024 to 2029.

The initiative seeks to enhance the socio-economic welfare of ethnic minority women through sustainable agricultural growth in Yen Bai Province. Its objectives include improving the operational efficiency of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, and production groups with a significant female ethnic minority workforce in agricultural value chains. These entities are expected to adopt gender-responsive and climate-resilient practices. Additionally, the project aims to strengthen the influence and participation of ethnic minority women in promoting sustainable economic growth in the agricultural sector.

The conference aimed to establish a shared understanding of local needs, project objectives, and expected outcomes. It also identified priorities for the period from December 2024 to March 2025, as well as planned interventions for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

Since the beginning of the year, Yen Bai Province has provided employment for over 20,900 workers, achieving 104.5% of its annual target. Notably, nearly 7,500 workers have transitioned from agricultural to non-agricultural sectors, surpassing the target at 107%.
